“Those are they who have bought the life of this world…” [al-Baqarah; 86]
“And the story of their purchasing the worldly life at the expense of the Hereafter on this occasion is that the cause of their going against their covenant with Allah is their desire to hold onto their covenant with the polytheists, in a treaty that necessitates their going against their religion and Book. Their splitting into two parties is the expected and natural course taken by Israel; that of holding the stick from the middle and making alliances with both sides of the spectrum out of precaution in order to make a gain from whatever situation might emerge, and in order that the interests of the Jews are served in the end, regardless of which of the two parties they allied themselves with end up victorious!
This is the course taken by he who has no confidence in Allah, nor does he stick to the covenant made with Him, and he places his dependence on completely on his sneakiness, the worldly covenants, and victory from slaves, not the Lord of the slaves.
True faith forbids its people to enter into alliances that negate their covenant with their Lord and go against the mandates of their Shari’ah in the name of ‘the overall benefit’ or ‘warding off a greater harm,’ as their is no overall benefit except in following and submitting to their religion, nor is their any better way to ward off a great harm except by preserving their covenant with their Lord.”
